Intelligent Life on other planets more likely today

The Milky Way

Its funny. What we once though of as absurd and far fetched has become widely accepted.  Think about it, we once believed that you could actually fall of the edge of the world, because it used to be square shaped.  Even though our heavy dependence on religion has lightened up a bit, we used to believe in sacrifices.  Daily worshiping to the water Gods for rain.  Witches!

I’m sure you can think about many different topics.  But what about life on other planets?

Our green little planet is 4.5 billion years old. The huge burning star next to it is a tad bit older, about 4.6 billion. Now there is a new theory out there that suggests something that made sense to me when I read it, and it might just make sense to you as well.  Astrobiologist Milan M. Cirkovic comments that some arguments are outdated and a new way of thinking is in order.

Old arguments suggests that hospitable planets where evolution could have taken place, and the stars required for this planet to remain within acceptable living conditions are separate entities. They couldn’t possibly exist next to each other as some form of predetermined natural phenomenon.  Heh?

Lost?  Here’s a quote that might help. The new argument suggests that these things are “they are deeply entwined.”

There are many different ways in which planets in our solar system are not isolated, we must not regard habitable planets as closed boxes. If you abandon that assumption of independence, then you have a whole new background in which you can set up various models of astrobiological development.

So looking at our own planet, they have both been in existence for a similar amount of time.  If this is the case, then the argument suggests that life on other planets is more of a possibility than what we have previously believed.  So if E.T is out there, maybe we can teach him about VOIP and help him save some money when phoning home.  Intergalactic Skype calling?  Nice niche wouldn’t ye think so?
