Harvard Classes Online – FREE!

Filed under: Dario — dario @ 6:49 pm

Wouldn’t it be great if you cold post on your resume that you complete a certain course from HARVARD? It would sure open the eyes of any employer looking at your RESUME. Not me of course, I really don’t like being an employer. Having my own business is what I’m all about.

Well guess what folks… anyone can listen (and WATCH) the lectures from Harvard University. Harvard, one of the most renowned schools in the world, has been making their resources available to anyone with an Internet connection and the willingess to learn.

One of the courses I’m doing right now is computer science. It’s really amazing what the Internet can do for anyone who is willing to look in the right places. This type of material just can’t be found anywhere.

Apart from the fact that regular online courses at Harvard cost $50 application fee, with a $1,700 tuition fee per course, the price can’t be beaten.

The ability to download everything via RSS is also available. You can also watch the courses using you browser with Java, use MP3 format to listen, or use Apple to download and watch whenever your able.

I haven’t been able to find the links to other areas of study. I’ll leave that up to you. Besides, just making a rough assumption here, but if you read my blog you would probably be interested in learning computer science anyway, am I right?

CNN Live and P2P

Filed under: Dario — dario @ 2:46 am

Its been said that P2P tecnology is here to stay, and apparently nothing could be further from the truth.Octoshape Logo CNN Live is a recent example of what P2P technology can do.  If you were one of the millions of people glued to CNN Live on inaguartion day (January 20th if you’ve been living under a rock), then you have already experienced P2P even if you didnt realize it and even if you’ve never used P2P software apps in the past.

This technology is called Octoshape Grid Delivery and is managed by Octoshape ApS, a company based in Copenhagen, Denmark.  If it was your first visit to the site, then you were presented a dialog box asking you to install Octoshape.  Apparently using this technology relieves a huge stress on the CNN servers, specially on a day such as inaguartion day.

What this techonology basically does is turn your PC into a server, which means once you start watching CNN Live you are automatically uploading the feed to someone else, something you agreed upon by clicking “YES” to the EULA .  This in turn will enable other users to watch CNN Live without stressing CNN’s servers and thus allowing a smoother user experience.

Install Web Developer Toolbar in Firefox 3.0b2

Filed under: Coding — dario @ 7:46 am

Firefox 3Firefox 3 is now my browser of choice. There are a huge number of improvements from the old Fox, plus the slick new Design is just nifty. The downside to user FF Beta is the lack of extension support.

If you’re a Web Developer like me you will not be able to do much without certain extensions, one of those being the Web Developer Toolbar. Earlier today I found a post from another blog that teaches you how to install the toolbar in Firefox 3. Luckily for me I was also able to use SEOQuake Toolbar as well. Here are the steps to do just that in my own simplified version:

Web use ‘Good for the Brain’

Filed under: Dario — dario @ 7:31 am

So it turns out using that surfing Web (not the Internet as the BBC states) is actually good for the brain. Obviously there isn’t that much of a difference from reading a book, aside from the fact that the Web is a pretty big book with much more information than an entire set of the Encyclopidia Britanica.
